Ingredients
1 large red onion
3 cups (750 ml) water
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger (optional)
1 cinnamon stick (optional)
1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Step 1: Select the Onion
Choose one fresh, firm red onion with no soft spots or mold.

Step 2: Wash the Onion
Rinse the onion thoroughly under running water to remove dirt and debris.

Step 3: Slice the Onion
Peel the outer skin and cut the onion into thin rings or slices, about ¼ inch (6 mm) thick.

Step 4: Prepare the Water
Pour 3 cups of water into a medium saucepan and bring it to a gentle boil.

Carefully add the sliced onion to the boiling water.

If desired, add:
1 teaspoon grated ginger

Pour the liquid through a fine mesh strainer into a mug or pitcher, discarding the onion slices and spices.

1 tablespoon honey
Juice of ½ lemon
Mix until well combined.
