Ingredients
1 ripe papaya
1–2 teaspoons fresh papaya seeds (start with a small amount because they have a peppery, bitter taste)
1 banana
1 cup pineapple chunks
Juice of 1 orange
Juice of ½ lemon
1 cup cold water or coconut water
1 teaspoon honey (optional)
Ice cubes (optional)
—
Step 1: Prepare the Papaya
Choose a ripe papaya with orange flesh. Wash the outside thoroughly before cutting.
—
Step 2: Remove the Seeds
Slice the papaya in half lengthwise. Scoop out the seeds with a spoon and place them in a small bowl.
—
Step 3: Rinse the Seeds
Rinse the seeds under cool water to remove the gelatinous coating. Pat them dry with a clean paper towel.
—
Step 4: Prepare the Fruit
Peel and slice the banana.
Cut the papaya flesh into cubes.
Measure the pineapple chunks.
Squeeze the orange and lemon.
—
Step 5: Blend
Add to a blender:
Papaya cubes
Banana
Pineapple
1–2 teaspoons papaya seeds
Orange juice
Lemon juice
Water or coconut water
Honey (optional)
Blend for 1–2 minutes until smooth.
—
Step 6: Adjust the Flavor
Taste the smoothie. If the papaya seeds make it too peppery or bitter, add a little more banana or pineapple.
—
Step 7: Serve
Pour into a chilled glass and enjoy immediately. Garnish with a slice of orange or a few mint leaves if desired.
—
Storage
Best consumed immediately.
If necessary, refrigerate in a sealed container and drink within 24 hours.
Suggested Serving
Enjoy one small glass (200–250 ml) as part of a balanced diet.
Important Note
Papaya seeds should be consumed in moderation, as eating large amounts may cause side effects and their long-term safety is not well established. They are not a proven treatment for intestinal parasites or other diseases. If you think you have a parasitic infection or another medical condition, consult a healthcare professional for appropriate testing and treatment.
