Ingredients
1 large fresh ginger root (about 100–120 g)
8–10 whole cloves
3 cups (750 ml) filtered water
1 small cinnamon stick (optional)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
1–2 teaspoons honey (optional)
—
Step 1: Wash the Ginger
Rinse the ginger thoroughly under cold running water to remove dirt. You may peel it if you prefer, though it’s optional if the skin is clean.
—
Step 2: Slice the Ginger
Cut the ginger into thin slices, about ⅛ inch (3 mm) thick. Thinner slices release more flavor.
—
Step 3: Prepare the Cloves
Measure 8–10 whole cloves. Lightly crush them with the back of a spoon to release their aromatic oils.
—
Step 4: Boil the Water
Pour 3 cups (750 ml) of filtered water into a saucepan and bring it to a rolling boil.
—
Step 5: Add the Ingredients
Add:
Sliced ginger
Whole cloves
Cinnamon stick (if using)
Reduce the heat to low.
—
Step 6: Simmer
Let the mixture simmer gently for 15–20 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse into the water.
—
Step 7: Steep
Turn off the heat, cover the pot, and let the tea steep for 10 minutes.
—
Step 8: Strain
Pour the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a teapot or mug, removing the ginger slices, cloves, and cinnamon.
—
Step 9: Add Flavor
Stir in:
Fresh lemon juice
Honey (if desired)
Mix well until the honey dissolves.
—
Step 10: Serve
Enjoy the tea warm, or let it cool and serve over ice for a refreshing drink.
—
Storage
Store in a sealed glass container in the refrigerator.
