Traditional Herbal Leaf Tea

Ingredients

8–10 fresh leaves (or 2 tablespoons dried leaves of an edible herb)

4 cups (1 liter) filtered water

1 small cinnamon stick (optional)

3–4 thin slices of fresh ginger (optional)

Juice of ½ lemon (optional)

1 teaspoon honey (optional, if appropriate for your diet)

Step 1: Select Fresh Leaves

Choose healthy, clean leaves from an edible plant that you can confidently identify. Discard any damaged or moldy leaves.

Step 2: Wash Thoroughly

Rinse the leaves several times under cool running water to remove dust and dirt.

Step 3: Prepare the Leaves

Tear or roughly chop the leaves into smaller pieces to help release their flavor.

Step 4: Boil the Water

Pour 4 cups (1 liter) of water into a saucepan and bring it to a rolling boil.

Step 5: Add the Leaves

Reduce the heat to low and add the chopped leaves. If using ginger and cinnamon, add them now.

Step 6: Simmer

Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 10–15 minutes.

Step 7: Steep

Turn off the heat, cover the pot with a lid, and let the tea steep for another 10 minutes.

Step 8: Strain

Pour the tea through a fine mesh strainer into a teapot or pitcher, removing all the leaves and spices.

Step 9: Add Flavor

If desired, stir in lemon juice and a small amount of honey.

Step 10: Serve

Enjoy the tea warm, or refrigerate and serve chilled over ice.

Storage

Store in a sealed glass bottle in the refrigerator.

Best consumed within 2 days.

Suggested Serving

Drink 1 cup once daily as a caffeine-free herbal beverage.

Important Note

If you have diabetes or high blood sugar, do not rely on herbal teas as a substitute for medical treatment. Monitor your blood sugar as recommended by your healthcare provider and discuss any herbal supplements with them, as some may interact with diabetes medications or increase the risk of low blood sugar.
