Dirty Oven Cleaning by CleanWithColle
Step 1: Make Sure the Oven Is Completely Cool
Turn the oven off and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. Remove any trays, pans, or other items from inside.
Step 2: Remove the Oven Racks
Take out the oven racks and place them somewhere suitable for cleaning. You can soak them separately in warm water with dish soap and scrub away the grease and buildup.
Step 3: Make the Cleaning Paste
In a small bowl, mix:
- ½ cup baking soda
- 2 tablespoons dish soap
- A little warm water
Add the water gradually until you have a thick, spreadable paste. You don’t want the mixture to be watery.
Step 4: Apply the Paste
Spread the paste over the dirty oven surfaces, concentrating on the baked-on grease, burnt food and dirty corners.
Avoid putting the mixture directly on heating elements, electrical components, vents, or fan openings.
Step 5: Let It Sit
Leave the paste on the grime for several hours, or overnight for heavy buildup. This gives the mixture time to soften the stuck-on grease and food residue.
Step 6: Scrub the Oven
Use a scrub brush or suitable non-scratch sponge to work over the softened grime.
Pay extra attention to:
- Oven floor
- Side walls
- Back wall
- Corners
- Inside of the oven door
For very stubborn areas, work gradually rather than trying to remove everything with excessive force.
Step 7: Wipe Away the Grime
Use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe away the loosened dirt and cleaning paste. Rinse the cloth frequently so you aren’t spreading the grease back over the oven.
Repeat the wiping and scrubbing where necessary.
Step 8: Use the Vinegar Separately
Put the ¼ cup white vinegar into a spray bottle or use a small amount on a damp cloth. Use it separately to help remove remaining residue after the baking-soda mixture has been wiped away.
Don’t rely on mixing the vinegar into the baking-soda paste: the two react immediately and largely neutralize each other. Using the vinegar afterward is more practical.
Step 9: Final Wipe
Wipe the entire cleaned area several times with a clean, damp microfiber cloth to remove any remaining cleaning-product residue.
Then dry the surfaces with a clean cloth and allow the oven to air-dry completely.
Step 10: Clean and Replace the Racks
Finish cleaning the oven racks, rinse them thoroughly and dry them before putting them back into the oven.
⚠️ Important Safety Tips
- Always clean the oven when it is switched off and completely cool.
- Do not spray or pour liquid into heating elements, electrical parts, vents or fan openings.
- Do not mix this method with commercial oven cleaners or bleach.
- Test cleaning products on the oven manufacturer’s recommended surfaces first.
- Check your oven’s manual for any special instructions about cleaning the interior or self-cleaning surfaces.
✨ Final Result
The baked-on grease and food residue should be loosened and removed, leaving the oven noticeably cleaner. Very heavy buildup may need a second treatment rather than aggressive scrubbing.
